What is Dual Fuel?
A Dual Fuel or hybrid system consists of a heat pump and a high efficiency furnace. The heat pump not only does all of the cooling for the home but it also does the majority of the heating for the home as well.
A heat pump is an air conditioner that can reverse the cooling cycle to heat your home. Believe it or not, there is heat in cold air! Heat pumps extract this warmth and inject it into your home.
A heat pump will move heat from the outside to inside until the outside air leaves little heat for it to move. At that point the high efficiency furnace will automatically turn on to keep you comfortable.
A furnace produces heat using fossil fuel. A heat pump burns no fossil fuels therefore protecting our air, water and our planet's climate. A heating system runs more than 2,500 hours per year. Half of those hours could be eliminated using a heat pump, which emits no gas exhaust into our atmosphere.
